MASTER

The handover notes have to be composed so as to allow the relieving Master to familiarize himself with his new command, thus achieving a smooth continuation of the ship’s operation and management.  Additionally, a Maintenance Program of Ship’s Safety Appliances and Equipment, will show the condition of the vessel at the time of handing over.

The relieving Master together with the relieved Master, should check and verify the existence and validity of each document.

  • OTHER DOCUMENTS, MANUALS, FILES, BOOKS AND DATA IN MASTER’S CUSTODY

Items contained in this part should be checked and ticked off the list.

  • PLANS/MAKERS MANUALS

Items contained in this part should be checked and ticked off the list.

  • REMARKS ON EQUIPMENT AND GENERAL NOTES

During the ship’s inspection, which is one phase on handing over command, remarks as to the condition of the equipment should be entered on this part.

  • ATTACHED PRESENT LOAD CALCULATION

Exact condition of cargo, fuel oil, diesel oil, ballast, etc. of the present situation to be given.

  • HULL DAMAGES

Damages to the ship’s hull as known to the relieved Master, with details as necessary, should be entered.  Relieving Master should check, if possible, and ascertain by themselves condition of visible hull and correctness of this part.

  • GENERAL
  1. Relieved Master should prepare the checklist as much as possible, in order to facilitate the proper and complete filling of the checklist.
  2. In case of limited time during handing over procedure and the inability to fully fill the list, then the list to be filled as much as possible and the relieving Master to forward in time additional sheets covering part or subjects which were not checked in the initial list.
  3. Portable valuable items, which are kept in Master’s custody to be delivered/received with inventory list duly signed by the relieved Master.
  4. It is the relieved Master duty to check and verify that all the listed items are on board in the reported condition and value.
