Personal Experience
a. Only crew seaman’s book should be declared on the crew list, indicating crew names/ranks, nationality, date/place of birth, seaman book no. and date signed onboard.
b. Master should ensure that he affixes ship’s stamp with date on crew seaman books when any crew member comes onboard and same plus master’s signature when the crew disembarks. Also all crew onboard should sign the holder’s space on the seaman’s book. The same should be done on the ship’s article.
c. No crewmember should disembark the vsl for any activity [e.g. Draft Survey, etc] without the issuance of Immigration shore pass. Contravention attracts a fine of $2,000
d. If there are passengers, supernumerary or cadets onboard, master should declare them with their International Passport with valid Nigeria visa. Under no circumstance should master declare passenger / supernumerary or cadets without valid Nigerian visa on any list to be made available to the port officials as they are expected to have entry visas. There is a penalty of $2,000 for any contravention. Pls see attached letter from Immigration Authority / Guide on Drugs.
di. Note that this does not affect cadets with a valid contract with the company. Also ensure that same status is inserted in their seamen books duly signed by the master with the corresponding date and port/place of signing on. In this case, only the seamen books should be declared and presented to the immigration authorities during post arrival boarding formalities.
