Personal Experience
The Kizomba “B” Terminal is located within the jurisdiction of the Port of Soyo, Angola. The Kizomba “B” Terminal consists of a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO), a Surface Well Head Platform (TLP) and a Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) buoy. The terminal is centered on the Kizomba “B” FPSO located at Latitude 6° 21.20’S, Longitude 011° 09.11’E. The CALM Buoy is located approximately 1.3 NM northwest of the FPSO at Latitude 6° 20.01’S, Longitude 011° 08.70’E. The TLP and FPSO are brightly lit and the CALM Buoy is marked with a white light flashing Morse “U” at 15-second intervals. There is a Restricted Area centered on the Kizomba “B” FPSO, which includes all of the waters within a 4 nautical mile radius. Vessels must not enter the Kizomba “B” Restricted Area without having the Mooring Master on board! While within the Restricted Area, tankers must stay at least one mile from all structures and vessels that are moored or that have equipment on the sea bottom except when the Mooring Master is conning. Outside of the Kizomba Restricted Areas, follow the instructions on the charts and in the Notices to Mariners.
Please note the Kizomba “B” Tanker Waiting Area (Latitude 6° 11.0’S, Longitude 011° 06.0’E.) is not an anchorage but is a reference position for tendering the vessel’s Notice of Readiness.
Tankers should arrive at the Kizomba “B” Terminal with a maximum trim of 3 meters by the stern or less, with the propeller completely submerged. (Esso Angola “Marine Terminal Information & Regulation Manual”, Section 2.2.3). Trim while at the terminal should not exceed 3 meters by the stern to prevent excessive wear to the Buoy mooring components.
The Pilot Boarding Area is at Latitude 6° 17’S, Longitude 011° 08’E, a position 4 ½ miles north-northwest of the FPSO.
Kizomba A Terminal is located to the west of Kizomba B Terminal and the Kizomba C Mondo and Saxi Terminals are located to the east of Kizomba B Terminal. The Terminal Restricted Areas for Kizomba A Terminal and Saxi Terminal overlap the Kizomba B Terminal Restricted Area. Vessels must not enter any of these Restricted Areas without having a Mooring Master on board!
At times the drill ships / rigs and possibly other restricted in ability to maneuver vessels work in the vicinity of the Kizomba Terminals. Tankers should stay well clear of these vessels.
There is seismic survey activity and other survey vessel activity occurring frequently in the off-shore waters of Angola. Maintain a vigilant watch and active communications to aid in Seismic vessel avoidance. Keep well clear of seismic and other survey vessels as they are towing seismic arrays that extend nearly 3 NM behind the vessels.
Contact “Kizomba Bravo FPSO Control” on VHF Channel 10/77 as soon as you are within radio range, at least two hours prior to arrival, and upon arriving at the Tanker Waiting Area. The Marine Control Room Operator will pass along any updated berthing plans at that time. Do not enter the “Restricted Areas” around any of the Kizomba Terminals without a Mooring Master on board.
